For those who do not know you, can you please introduce yourself?

I am a travel writer who has a passion for learning new things. I have dedicated my life to traveling the world and writing about my experiences.

Tell us a little bit about your background and how your journey as a Travel writer get started?

It all started when I left college. I was making a living by doing freelance writing for various publications and online websites. However, my passion was in travel. I would eventually follow my passions and they would lead me into a full-time career as a travel writer.

What is unique about your writing style? What is your inspiration?

One of the biggest things that I try to instill into my writing is authenticity. I try to paint a picture that almost any viewer can visualize. My goal is to help you imagine as if you were there at the vacation destination that I have visited. My biggest inspiration is to help others travel. Many people will never get to travel in their lifetimes, and I hope to encourage them to take that leap of faith.

We noticed you recently did a piece titled “Colby Lee Burke’s Guide to Hilton Head, South Carolina” Can you provide more insights?

Hilton Head is one of my favorite destination spots in the world. I wanted to help guide others to this luxurious location by providing a detailed account of what makes that place so special. I think it has been well-received so far.

We couldn’t help but notice your webpage on https://www.colbyleeburke.com/. Why did you decide to create “learning resources for writers”?

A big passion of mine is helping others achieve their dreams. Many freelance writers oftentimes find themselves writing in subjects that they do not regularly enjoy. I want to open their eyes to the world and encourage them to pursue travel writing. It is a great way to get paid and visit parts of the world that you have never seen before.

Please share about 3 of your favorite destinations. What do you like most about them?

My first favorite destination is obviously Hilton Head. The white beaches in this area are breathtaking and the amenities are incredible. Portland, Oregon with craft beer and rich in culture, it’s a must-visit destination. Finally, Scotland is pretty incredible. I love looking at the green hills and learning about Scottish culture whenever I am there. It is truly breathtaking.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started “travel writing”?

The biggest lesson that I have learned while traveling would have to be the fact that only you can make your dreams come true. Waiting for someone to come around and give you a golden ticket isn’t practical. You have to dive in head first towards what you want and don’t stop until you get it.

What is the biggest challenge you have overcome by since you started freelancing as a travel writer?

The biggest challenge that I had to overcome was being alone. Though you can visit a city that is full of thousands of people, you can still feel lonely at the center of it all. I have conquered this problem by surrounding myself with my closest friends and family whenever I am home.

When you launched out a career as “travel writer”, what “big” problem did you set out to solve?

The big problem that I set out to solve was the fact that most people have never traveled. I wanted to help explain my travels through words so that they might become inspired to do the same.

Breaking into the travel writing industry isn’t an easy feat. What advice would you give other millennials looking to form their own travel blogs? Marketing tips?

I would recommend networking with other travel bloggers. You never know what connections that may end up having. Be sure to tell everyone you know about what you do. This is the best way to market yourself in the beginning stages.

Where do you find your inspiration?

My inspiration comes from my love of learning. You can learn so much whenever you travel. This has allowed me to grow exponentially as a person.

What do you do to help yourself get out of a creative rut?

I try to take a break. Forcing yourself to write something can only cause more problems. Walk away from the computer if you’re feeling stuck and go for a stroll to recharge your creative battery.

What’s your typical day like?

I like to wake up mid-morning and make myself some coffee. I check emails and social media for any important updates. I start planning my next travel destination and begin working on my writing once I have settled into the day.

Where can folks go to learn more about your latest travel writing? (Please list out your social channels & website here)

What would you like to achieve before the end of 2019?

I would love to travel to countries that I have never been and learn more about their cultures.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I have pursued my passions and turned them into a living.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
