It was an honor interviewing William Turner and I hope you enjoy reading this just as much as we have.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>: Who inspired you to be an author?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer<\/strong>: Agatha Christie<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>: How did your writing career first get started then?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:<\/strong> It was inadvertent.\u00a0 In college, I had written a paper, and across the top the professor wrote, \u201cIt\u2019s amazing at the high rate of illiteracy in the United States.\u00a0 I sat staring at the comment, and then I went to Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury.\u00a0 I showed the paper to Brothers Newman and Ward.\u00a0 Giving them the paper, I asked what does this mean?\u00a0 He\u2019s telling you that you don\u2019t have style.\u00a0 I then asked, \u201cHow do I get style?\u201d\u00a0 They told me to read murder mysteries because they are very descriptive, and the sentences are varied.\u00a0 That Saturday, I spent the entire day reading Agatha Christie, paying attention to the sentence structure.\u00a0 When I returned to college that following Monday, I was ready.\u00a0 At the time, little did I realize Agatha Christie\u2019s influence. I became a devotee of mysteries.\u00a0 As would be expected, I tried my hand at writing mysteries.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2163\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2163\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2163 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/skillpatron.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/william-turner-death-comes-for-the-president.jpg\" alt=\"Death Comes For the President, William Turner\" width=\"800\" height=\"1236\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2163\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Death Comes For the President, William Turner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>What do you like doing when you\u2019re not reading?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:\u00a0<\/strong> I like gardening.\u00a0 But I do very little reading\u2014unless I am researching settings for my books.\u00a0 The reason I do very little reading is because I might run across an impressive sentence, paragraph, and they just might end up in my work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:\u00a0<\/strong>I wanted to be a priest.\u00a0 Prior to commitment, I felt I wasn\u2019t exposed sufficiently to life\u2014to walk away, enter the monastery, and close the door behind me.\u00a0 I subsequently became so sullied that any aspiration for the priesthood was gone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>How would you characterize the perspective of your \u201cDeath Comes for the President?\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:\u00a0<\/strong>Things, persons, and situations are not what they appear to be at first blush.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>What do you love the best about writing thrillers?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:\u00a0<\/strong>Creating believable plots, identifiable characters, and human reaction.\u00a0 Creating the murderer, and the detective who will outwit him\/her. Attempting to write in such a fashion that the reader<br \/>\ncontinues to flip pages to the very end\u2014only to be surprised.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>Who are your personal favorite thriller writers?\u00a0 Who are your favorite writers overall? And why?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:\u00a0<\/strong>My favorite thriller writers are Agatha Christie, of course, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. My favorite writers overall are Agatha Christie and Hermann Hesse. Agatha Christie because of her expert plot development and characterization; Hermann Hesse because of his unequalled mastery at delving into human nature.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>Do you feel all your dreams have come true?\u00a0 What is one thing you\u2019d like to do you haven\u2019t done yet?<strong>Answer:\u00a0<\/strong>No.\u00a0 I have undertaken the most difficult of the writing genre\u2014the mystery.\u00a0 I endeavor to be a credible, mystery writer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>For readers who haven\u2019t read your book yet.\u00a0 What should we look forward to?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:<\/strong>\u00a0Originality, intriguing plots, and identifiable characters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:<\/strong>\u00a0How did you first come up with the idea for Death Comes for the President, and then, is it a series?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:<\/strong>\u00a0I was challenged to write a romance, but never having had a riveting romance, I decided to give it a twist.\u00a0 Therefore, in Death Comes for the President, I profiled young love, aspirations, naivety, and dreams.\u00a0 The first novel in the series is A Murder in Our Midst, and second is Death Comes for the President.\u00a0 The third installment is The Corpses Beneath the Tree.\u00a0 Not in the series is The Young Assassin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0I\u2019m sure that having such success with a novel completely changed your world.<br \/>\nCan you put it into words?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer<\/strong>:\u00a0Prior to submitting my initial manuscript, A Murder in Our Midst, I requested a talent evaluation, and was surprised to have my manuscript critiqued by Avon Books.\u00a0 I was told I do have talent, and suggestions were offered which I have followed.<br \/>\nFor my initial mystery, I have received numerous, laudatory reviews.\u00a0 It was well-received by the reading public.\u00a0 It was indeed most humbling.\u00a0 Those reviews instilled in me to achieve higher\u2014to be the best I can be.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>Where can readers connect with you.<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:\u00a0<\/strong>As a private person, I have no direct contact.\u00a0 I urge the readers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Death-Comes-President-William-Turner\/dp\/1629014745\">purchase the books<\/a> and write a review\u2014good, bad, indifferent.\u00a0 Those reviews are invaluable, for they enable a writer to hone his\/her skills.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2162\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2162\" style=\"width: 880px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2162\" src=\"https:\/\/skillpatron.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/death-comes-for-the-president-william-turner.jpg\" alt=\"Death Comes For the President, William Turner\" width=\"880\" height=\"1360\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2162\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Death Comes For the President,<br \/>William Turner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0<\/strong>Lastly, what would be your advice to the budding writers out there?\u00a0 What would be that one mantra you wished someone had shared with you?<br \/>\n<strong>Answer:\u00a0<\/strong>Acquire an above average knowledge of grammar, have your manuscript edited and proofread.\u00a0 Be persistent.\u00a0 Never, ever give up.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be thin skinned\u2014accept the negative reviews, understand why you received negative reviews, and use those to improve.\u00a0 Do not rely on spell-check, sentence suggestions, and punctuation.\u00a0 Know that there is no such thing as a \u201cperfect, eye-catching query letter.\u00a0 Know that publishing is highly subjective; it has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of your work, but more to do with the mood the reviewer is in.\u00a0 Remember agents are in the profession for money, for they have mortgages and other expenses.\u00a0 To this end, they are seeking the well-established.<\/p>\n<p>My mantra is never attempt to write your manuscript until the story has fully developed in your mind.\u00a0 To do otherwise, would invite writer\u2019s block.<\/p>\n<p>________________________________________________<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Death Comes For the President\u00a0Paperback\u00a0\u2013 March 28, 2017<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/William-Turner\/e\/B008MBVQYI\/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1\">William Turner<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0(Author)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/review\/create-review\/ref=dpx_acr_wr_link?asin=1629014745\">Be the first to review this item<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Death-Comes-President-William-Turner\/dp\/1629014745\">https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Death-Comes-President-William-Turner\/dp\/1629014745<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As a confidant of the Queen, knighted for his service, Sir Robert Winchell had grown accustomed to powerful people seeking his counsel.
